“It’s an incredible chance to be part of a club with such a great history and such passionate fans. I’m looking forward to contributing and working with some of the most ingenious minds in football,” Stephen “Steve” Rands wrote on LinkedIn about his new club. “I have worked closely with some of the industry’s most renowned coaches, including Manuel Pellegrini, Pep Guardiola and Frank Lampard. By combining advanced data analysis with a deep understanding of football dynamics, I have developed solutions that have improved team performance and decision-making across clubs.”
Rands began his career as an analyst at Barnsley FC in 2007 and worked for Championship side Scunthorpe United from 2008 to 2011 as chief analyst and, in the first year, as coach of a youth team. From 2011 to 2018, he worked for Manchester City, initially as an analyst, and from 2016 – once Pep Guardiola took charge – as chief analyst. During this time, the Sky Blues won the Premier League twice. He worked in the same position for Derby County, Swansea City and Nottingham Forest in the following years. From July to the end of November 2024, he was a first team coach and analyst at Leicester City.
