Youth and Senior Career
Felix Nmecha was born on October 10, 2000, in Hamburg, Germany, to a German mother and a Nigerian father. When Felix was six years old, he moved with his family to Manchester, England, where he and his brother Lukas, who is almost two years his senior, began their youth football careers.
Both brothers were accepted into the renowned Manchester City academy. There, Felix developed into a technically polished and versatile midfielder. At 19, he broke into the senior squad and made his UEFA Champions League debut under manager Pep Guardiola.
In the summer of 2021, Felix and Lukas Nmecha both joined VfL Wolfsburg. Felix would go on to make 50 competitive appearances for the club from the German Federal state of Lower Saxony, with 46 coming in the Bundesliga. Throughout his time with Wolfsburg, during which he scored a total of three goals, the 1.88-meter-tall (roughly 6’2”) midfielder ranked as an elite prospect. His Head Coach at the time, Niko Kovac, said in March 2023, "He already has a pretty good skill set, especially on the ball. Despite his height, he finds solutions under pressure and in tight spaces."

Felix Nmecha at BVB
Felix Nmecha has donned the Borussia Dortmund kit since summer 2023. The central midfielder wears the number eight shirt, reflecting the position in which he feels most at home. The dual citizen of Germany and the UK has emphasized that playing for BVB holds special meaning for him, sharing that he started following the club in his childhood.
In his very first season with Borussia, Nmecha helped his side to the UEFA Champions League final. He made a major impact on matchday 3 of the group phase, with his goal at Newcastle earning BVB its first victory of the competition, which would prove to be a critical turning point in the team’s European campaign.
Nmecha is known for his mobility, his endurance, and his excellent technique. With his fastest speed having been measured as 34.8 km/h (roughly 21.6 mph), he ranks as one of the paciest players at his position. At the same time, he logs an average of 11 kilometers (roughly 6.8 miles) of ground covered per 90 minutes, making him a key piece of Dortmund's game on both defense and offense.
During the 2025-26 season, Felix Nmecha was sidelined for several weeks due to an LCL tear in his knee, forcing him to miss a number of matches. However, he worked his way back with tremendous determination and picked up right where he had left off. Despite his time away, Nmecha finished the campaign with five goals and three assists. Under Head Coach Niko Kovac, with whom the midfielder had already enjoyed success at Wolfsburg, he once again became a central figure in the lineup.

International Career
At youth level, Felix Nmecha represented both the country of his birth, Germany, and the country in which he grew up, England. After initially lacing up for England, he followed the call of the German FA and — following a few more youth appearances with England — eventually made the switch permanent.
In March 2022, Nmecha made his debut for the German U-21s. Just a year later, on March 28, 2023, he took the next major step in his career, earning his first cap with the senior squad. He scored his first international goal in a 1-1 draw with Hungary in November 2024.
At the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the U.S., Canada and Mexico, Nmecha started in all four of Germany's matches. In the 7-1 opening win over Curaçao, he scored his team’s first goal of the tournament.
