Felix Nmecha
Felix Nmecha has been with Borussia Dortmund since the summer of 2023. He sees himself as a box to box midfielder and now wears the number 8 shirt for the club “I have been following since my childhood”. With the team, he reached the Champions League final in his first season in Black & Yellow, and it was his goal to seal a 1-0 away win at Newcastle United on Matchday 3 of the group stage that was the "game changer" for the team, having failed to win their first two games. The 1.88 metre tall midfielder is extremely fast (top speed: 34.7 km/h), hard-working and has a good engine (11.8 km per 90 minutes) and is strong in the tackle, winning 58% of his duels.
Felix Nmecha was born in Hamburg on 10 October 2000. His mother is German, his father Nigerian. When Felix was six years old, his family emigrated to Manchester. In England, he and his brother Lukas, who is almost two years older, joined the youth academy of Manchester City. At the age of 19, he was named in the first team squad and made his Champions League debut under head coach Pep Guardiola.
In the summer of 2021, Felix Nmecha and his brother joined VfL Wolfsburg. In total, Felix notched up exactly 50 appearances for Wolfsburg (46 of them in the Bundesliga, three goals). Wolfsburg's then coach Niko Kovac said in March 2023: “He is already highly capable, especially on the ball. Despite his height, he finds solutions – under pressure, in tight spaces.”
While coming up through the ranks, Felix Nmecha, who was born in Germany and grew up in England, switched between English and German youth teams. In October 2015, he played twice for the England U16s, briefly switching to Germany in March 2018, and played again for England's U19s until March 2019. In March 2022, he made his debut for the German U21s, and made his senior debut twelve months later (on 28 March 2023). He scored his first international goal in November 2024 in a 1-1 draw with Hungary.
