Joane Gadou

Youth and Senior Career

Joane Gadou was born on January 17, 2007, in Aubervilliers, France, and holds both French and Ivorian citizenship. The 1.95-meter-tall (roughly 6’5”) center back is considered one of the most promising defensive talents of his age group. He received his footballing education at the renowned Paris Saint-Germain youth academy, which has a track record of producing numerous elite internationals.

With PSG's youth teams, Gadou won the French U-19 championship in 2024, in the process turning heads with his physical presence, his composure on the ball, and his leadership qualities. In September 2024, he decided to take the next step in his career and joined Austrian heavyweight FC Salzburg.

At Salzburg, the young Frenchman gained valuable experience in professional football, making a total of 55 competitive appearances for the first team. In addition to featuring 40 times in the Austrian Bundesliga, seven times in the UEFA Europa League, four times in UEFA Champions League qualifying, and four times in the domestic cup, he also played in the UEFA Youth League as well as in one second division match with FC Liefering, FC Salzburg's feeder club.

Joane Gadou has been part of the Borussia Dortmund squad since 2026. The center back signed a long-term contract with the club that runs until 2031.

"We’ve known Joane for a very long time and followed his progression throughout his time at Paris Saint-Germain," remarked BVB Managing Director for Sport, Lars Ricken. "Joane will strengthen our roster and take on a key role right from the start of the new season. We believe in his qualities and see enormous upside."

For his part, Gadou expressed his excitement about joining Borussia. "I'm absolutely delighted to be part of the BVB family going forward," he said, "and I can't wait to wear the Black & Yellow shirt for the first time. Together with my teammates, the entire club, and our incredible fans, I want to help Borussia Dortmund accomplish its goals in the coming years."

International Career

Joane Gadou, who has progressed through France's youth national teams since 2022, was part of the squad that finished runner-up at the U-17 European Championship in 2023. At the following year’s U-17 European Championship, he led Les Bleus onto the pitch as team captain. To date, Gadou has made eight appearances for the French U-19s.
