Youth and Senior Career

Born January 9, 2008, in the northern Italian university city of Modena, Luca Reggiani joined the youth system of AC Castelvetro at age five, with his parents driving him to every training session in the neighboring town. Just three years after first lacing up for Castelvetro, the standout talent was already on the radar of US Sassuolo Calcio, which recruited him for its youth academy in the summer of 2016. Having stayed with the club for eight years, Reggiani finally joined the BVB academy in 2024.

Luca Reggiani, who describes himself as family-oriented, has a twin sister. "We have a great relationship," he said. "I'm very proud to be part of this family. My parents and my sister are my biggest fans – my biggest supporters."

Luca Reggiani has been donning the Black & Yellow kit since February 2024. As a youth player measuring 194 centimeters (roughly 6’4”), he stood out thanks to his imposing physical presence as well as his play on the field. The Italy native immediately locked down a starting spot with the U-17s and capped off his maiden campaign by winning the German championship at that age level, courtesy of a 3-2 victory over Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the final.

Head Coach Niko Kovac recognized Reggiani’s qualities early and decided to invite him to first team training. The young center back was named to his first Bundesliga matchday squad on February 7, 2026, and he would also make his first-ever appearance that day, coming on in the closing seconds of a 2-1 away win at VfL Wolfsburg.

Luca Reggiani’s maiden first team start followed ten days later in a Champions League home victory over Atalanta (2-0). Less than four weeks after that, he experienced the thrill of scoring in front of the Yellow Wall for the first time. Luca Reggiani's first Bundesliga goal came in a home match against FC Augsburg on March 14, 2026. "That incredible feeling will stay with me for the rest of my life," said the 18-year-old.

On March 20, 2026, Reggiani signed his first professional deal with Borussia. "BVB is one of the biggest clubs in the world,” he remarked when reflecting on his decision to commit to the club long-term. “When they asked me to extend my contract, I didn't hesitate.” Managing Director for Sport Lars Ricken emphasized, "We have complete confidence in his abilities. Our joint success story continues."

International Career

On November 3, 2022, a 14-year-old Luca Reggiani represented his country for the first time. He has since been a part of Italy’s national team program at all age levels starting with the U-15s, including competing at the 2025 U-17 World Cup and finishing third. In January 2026, Reggiani made his maiden appearance with the U-19s, followed just a few months later by his first-ever call-up to the senior squad and his debut in a friendly against Greece. The defender entered the match as an 86th-minute substitute.
