Borussia Dortmund's U23s have reacted to the injury crisis and the promotions of Hendry Blank and Antonios Papadopoulos to the first team: centre-back Antonis Aidonis is moving to the Rote Erde on a free transfer until the end of the season. The 22-year-old came through the ranks at VfB Stuttgart and last played for Aris Saloniki.

Aidonis and Aris dissolved his contract in Greece in September of last year and he has been without a club ever since. Since then, he has been training with BVB and has impressed coach Jan Zimmermann and Ingo Preuß, the sporting director. "He has made a good impression. And not only on a sporting level, but in terms of his character too," said Zimmermann. Ingo Preuß added: "In Antonis, we have one more player in the squad who gives us flexibility. In defence, we've recently only had two players who were available to play for us."

The German-Greek made two Bundesliga appearances for VfB Stuttgart and played 11 second-tier games for Dynamo Dresden. "His build-up play is really good, as is his technique. Through his spells at VfB Stuttgart, Dynamo Dresden and in Greece, he has already amassed quite some experience for his young age, which will definitely help us," said Zimmermann of the new signing.
