The Legends Team of eight-time German champions Borussia Dortmund is set for a return to the football pitch on 8 June 2019, when they will face their Liverpool FC counterparts at the Hong Kong Stadium. The two clubs, who both have long and illustrious histories, have faced each other many times over the years and are united in their shared love for the cult football anthem 'You'll Never Walk Alone'.

Following the successful international debut of the BVB Legends Team last November against a team representing top Thai club Buriram United, an almost identical Black & Yellow XI featuring captain Julio Cesar, vice-captain Karl-Heinz-Riedle and World Cup winner Roman Weidenfeller will now face an equally star-studded Liverpool FC Legends team. The Reds are expected to field the likes of Jamie Carragher, Steve McManaman, Luis Garcia and Patrik Berger, with ex-striker Robbie Fowler set to wear the captain's armband.

After the match in Hong Kong was announced on Thursday, Karl-Heinz Riedle, a successful striker who enjoyed spells with both Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool back in his playing days, said: "It's always a wonderful occasion to see old friends, particularly of course in such a special place as Hong Kong, where both clubs can be proud of the fact that they have been supported by so many loyal and enthusiastic football fans over the years. We're looking forward to a wonderful afternoon and evening with them, where there will no shortage of fun or competitive spirit on the pitch."

"I'm sure that we'll see lots of laughing faces"

"From our match against the LFC Legends at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK in Dortmund last summer, we know that the lads in the red shirts have lost none of their will to win. It will undoubtedly be another good battle this time, but I'm equally confident that we'll see lots of laughing faces during the match and especially afterwards."

Robbie Fowler, the captain of the Liverpool FC Legends Team, echoed Riedle's words and said: "Our objective is to provide our fans in Hong Kong and all over Asia with an entertaining and yet competitive football match. As a former player, it's a major honour for us to be able to be involved in these matches and especially against such a renowned opponent as Borussia Dortmund. There are close links and many years of history that connect us with BVB."

The match at the Hong Kong Stadium will kick off at 16:00 local time. Tickets will go on sale to the public on 23 April, although Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool fan club members will enjoy special pre-purchase rights.
