Together with the BVB fan and facilitation department, the Dortmund Fan Project, the fanzine schwatzgelb.de and the Südtribüne Dortmund Alliance, Borussia Dortmund are launching a large-scale donation campaign to help people affected by the war in Ukraine.

All of us are very concerned about the images coming out of Ukraine. The Russian aggression against Ukraine is causing great suffering among the civilian population. The latest figures from the UNHCR show that 500,000 people have now been displaced from their homes. We are only at the beginning of a great wave of people who need support and solidarity from all of us – be it in exile or on the ground in Ukraine.

Against this background, the BVB first team, members, fans and employees have been working on a joint fundraiser. Together, we are now bringing the first 160 tonnes of medical aid to Ukraine. By working with Libereco, we can ensure that the goods will definitely arrive. This has been and currently remains the biggest challenge for many relief organisations.

Where will my donation go?

The fundraising campaign is designed to help with the humanitarian aid work of Libereco and its Ukrainian partner organisation Vostok SOS. Together, the two institutions are organising help for people in the danger zone, providing medicines and bandages and helping with evacuation or the search for temporary accommodation. BVB have followed the work of Libereco for many years as a result of personal contacts and through our own educational projects in Eastern Poland. Imke Hansen of Libereco says: "We are currently trying to get actual help to as many people as possible. I would like to thank all the donors very much. Every euro helps in the midst of the humanitarian disaster."

Some of the donations will be used for the large-scale purchase of medical supplies, which will be brought directly to Ukraine and used there by Libereco. We would like to thank Klinikum Dortmund and the Kassenärztliche Vereinigung Westfalen-Lippe for their generous support.

How can I donate?

Donations can be made via the BVB Foundation "leuchte auf" here

In addition, the wristband to show solidarity with the motto "#StandWithUkraine" in the Ukrainian national colours yellow and blue will be available in the BVB shop tomorrow for €10. The proceeds will go to Libereco. In addition, we offer the option to order the solidarity wristband for €25 or €100 in the shop.

Can I also donate goods or help any other way?

There are already numerous ways to donate goods in the Dortmund area. We are therefore very happy to support the call of "Boundless Warmth Refugee Relief Work" to bring any goods you want to donate to the Westfalenhallen Dortmund. All of the items donated will benefit those affected by the war in Ukraine.

They are currently looking for volunteers to help take in the goods. If you want to get involved and help out, enter your contact details here

Currently, the collection point is overcrowded, and no clothing donations can be accepted. Instead, sanitary products, food and medicines are needed. For more information, click here. We will distribute shopping lists stating exactly what is needed through our social media channels. In order to make it easier for the aid workers in Ukraine to get the goods right where they are needed, it is important that these lists are strictly adhered to.
