After their 5-1 triumph over Fortuna Düsseldorf on Tuesday, Borussia Dortmund have now made it two wins from two at their training camp in Marbella. The Black & Yellows ran out 6-0 winners over Swiss top-tier side FC Basel, with goals from Sebastian Haller (3), Marco Reus, Donyell Malen and Jude Bellingham.

BVB played FC Basel in a friendly over four 30-minute periods on Friday afternoon. The fixture, which was Dortmund's final warm-up before the start of competitive play in 2023, saw a reunion with three former players: the Swiss side are coached by Alexander Frei, while goalkeeper Marwin Hitz and striker Bradley Fink featured in the starting XI.

BVB coach Edin Terzic had to make do without Thomas Meunier and Raphael Guerreiro at the full-back positions. Niklas Süle shifted over to the right side of defence, with Thorgan Hazard coming in at left back. As in the friendly against Düsseldorf, the team lined up in a 4-1-4-1 formation, with Salih Özcan anchoring the midfield.

On the training ground in Marbella, it took until the tenth minute before BVB had their first chance to score. It fell to Süle, whose curling effort from 20 metres out flew just wide of the left post. Six minutes later, it was FCB's turn to threaten, but Fink failed to get enough on his free header to beat Gregor Kobel. BVB were on top, but weren't able to fashion another chance until the 22nd minute, when Youssoufa Moukoko fired over the bar in the aftermath of a set-piece. Shortly before the end of the first quarter, Mohamed Zeki Amdouni missed the target after a brave run forward down the right (29).

In the second quarter, the Black & Yellows were able to make their superiority count on the scoreboard. The deadlock was broken immediately after the restart: Reus drilled a shot on goal from a half-left position inside the box, the ball took a slight deflection off Hazard and nestled into the back of the net to make it 1-0. Malen had provided the assist, and ten minutes later, he grabbed a goal of his own: a Bellingham shot cannoned back off the inside of the post and fell kindly to the Dutchman, who had a simple close-range finish to make it 2-0. Basel showed they were still a threat, as Amdouni tested Kobel with a long-range shot which the goalkeeper just managed to get his fingertips to (52). The next goal, however, was again scored by the team in Black & Yellow: Bellingham was tripped in the area and stepped up to slot the resultant penalty into the bottom-left corner. Just before the break, Malen sent a shot straight into the arms of Hitz (60).

Terzic brought on five new players for the start of the third quarter: Marius Wolf, Tom Rothe, Julian Brandt, Giovanni Reyna and Haller. But the next chance fell to Basel in the 73rd minute, as a free-standing Aaron Akale failed to beat Kobel with a header. Two minutes later, Bellingham failed to force a Rothe cross over the line from close range. But before long, Haller gave a showcase of his skillset. First Reyna was fouled in the box in the 81st minute, and the striker stepped up to take the spotkick and score his first goal for BVB to bring the score to 4-0. Shortly afterwards, Haller grabbed another goal, as he banged home Brandt's cross to make it 5-0 (86 ). And two minutes later, he struck with the outside of his foot after a corner from Rothe to complete his hat-trick. Three goals in seven minutes for Haller and a 6-0 lead for BVB!

After half an hour of action, Haller was withdrawn from the field of play, as Felix Passlack, Alexander Meyer and Soumaila Coulibaly came on for the final period. No more goals were scored, however, as the game ended in a 6-0 win for the Black & Yellows.

Training camp is drawing to a close. After a regeneration session on Saturday morning, the BVB squad will make the trip back home. The first competitive match of the new year is scheduled for 22 January, when FC Augsburg will be the guests at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK (kick-off 15:30 CET).
