"You always need to believe in yourselves. A goal changes everything," explained Borussia Dortmund coach Lucien Favre after seeing his team come from two goals down to claim a 4-2 victory in Leverkusen. "It showed strength to come back so impressively," said captain Marco Reus in praise of his team-mates.

Lucien Favre: "The goals we conceded were unnecessary. For the first one, we made too many mistakes. We can't allow that to happen. The second came from a corner where we didn't anticipate the second phase well after a clearance. That cost us two goals. But you always need to believe in yourselves. A goal changes everything. We showed our spirit again. There were a lot of emotions at the end. Winning 4-2 after being 2-0 down is super. Leverkusen could've scored a third, but we controlled the match well in the second period, we played better then. It's very nice to be at the top of the table. It's been a good start."

Marco Reus: "The coach didn't need to say much at half-time. We hadn't completed a good warm-up beforehand, so it was almost a logical consequence that we'd play a first half like that one. It was clear that we'd have to show a reaction in the second half, otherwise there would've been a very different outcome. Today there were a lot of young players on the pitch again, for whom it's not easy to be 2-0 down in Leverkusen. It showed strength to then come back so impressively. If we can go one better in the Champions League on Wednesday, then we'll have made a good start to the season. But we'll have to play 90 good minutes then, rather than the 45 we played today."

Roman Bürki: "It feels good to be top of the table. It's a nice moment, but the season is still young. What's important is that we continue and build on this momentum in our upcoming games. It got a bit loud in the dressing room for a short while today, but we've often managed to come from behind before. We told ourselves that we'd make a good start to the second half and that we needed to get an early goal, then Leverkusen would get nervous. We had difficulties in the first period when it came to building from the back and we were chasing the ball, because Leverkusen put us under very good pressure. Leverkusen deserved to take the lead, but in the second half it was a completely different story. We remained patient and got the goals at the right time."

Heiko Herrlich (Bayer Leverkusen coach): "We had two opportunities to extend our lead – and immediately after them came their first goal and the equaliser. It was clear that Dortmund would go up a gear with their quality."

Julian Brandt (Bayer Leverkusen): "Dortmund had a resurgence after pulling it back to 2-1, and we allowed elements of our play to go missing. That gave Dortmund confidence, they're a super team and they took their chances. You could see that Dortmund had more energy in the second half."
