Marco Reus did not mix his words after the sobering defeat in Berlin: "We simply have to show the same virtues that distinguished us last season. These are will to win and passion - and then we can start playing."

Marco Reus: “We were simply completely stupid the whole game. In between, we had a few good situations, but then were a little sloppy in the final third. After the 1: 1 we were in control and well in the game. Overall, it was not enough. We sometimes believe that you can win this sort of games on our quality alone. This has to stop! We simply have to show the same virtues that distinguished us last season. These are will to win and passion - and then we can start playing. Every one of us has to up their game and we’ll have to start in two weeks’ time.”

Julian Brandt: „"We simply conceded the goals too easily today. Union threw everything at us and then we let in goals too easily, which hurts. As a unit, we must make sure that we defend better. We have only ourselves to blame for not playing well in many situations. I don’t think any of us had a great game. We all saw today that the Berliners had the greater will to win."
