Sokratis Papastathopoulos is set to leave eight-time German champions Borussia Dortmund this summer, following the departures of the retiring Roman Weidenfeller and Stuttgart-bound Gonzalo Castro. The 30-year-old Greek international's request to join Premier League outfit Arsenal was granted, although both clubs have agreed not to disclose the terms of the transfer.

Central defender Sokratis initially joined BVB from SV Werder Bremen in the summer of 2015, scoring 10 goals in 198 competitive appearances for the Black & Yellows and helping the club to a DFB Cup final victory a year ago.

"We wish Papa all the very best for his future career and thank him for his many years of commitment in the Black & Yellow shirt," declared Sporting Director Michael Zorc.
