In the last friendly before the new season, BVB U23s drew 1-1 with Dutch first-division side RKC Waalwijk. Ole Pohlmann gave the Black and Yellows the lead in the first half. The equaliser came after a corner in the second half.

BVB was the more dynamic team in the first half and had a chance to take the lead through Fink in the opening seconds. A few minutes later, Semic broke through on the right-hand side but his effort was saved by the visitors' keeper. The Black and Yellows were more assertive and won the ball numerous times in the final third. The visitors came close only once in the opening exchanges when Unbehaun saved a long-range shot from an angle in the 18th minute.

BVB were rewarded with the lead in the 38th minute when the eye-catching Semic gave the ball to Ole Pohlmann near the penalty spot and he slotted home easily. In the second half, Broschinski missed a chance to make it 2-0 (55 mins.) shortly before the visitors made it 1-1 after a corner.

BVB were again in the ascendency as the game progressed, but they failed to get the ball over the line. Fink, Broschinski and Finnsson missed promising chances. In the end, the score remained 1-1.

The U23s kick off the league season with an away trip to Wehen Wiesbaden on 25 July. Kick-off is at 7 pm. Before that, Dortmund will have an intensive week of training comprising seven training sessions.
