Guirassy is the top scorer in the Champions League

BVB striker Serhou Guirassy has finished as the top scorer in what is only his second season in the Champions League. The 29-year-old scored 13 goals and notched a further five assists in 14 matches. That means he finishes in joint first place alongside Raphinha of FC Barcelona, who was also on target 13 times.

After Erling Haaland, Guirassy is the second player in the history of the club to top the Champions League goalscoring charts in a Borussia Dortmund shirt. Haaland previously secured top spot in the 2020/21 campaign, with 10 goals.

This season saw the Guinea international score eight goals with his right foot, two with his left foot, two from headers and one with his thigh – following a deflected shot from Karim Adeyemi in the home game against Shakhtar Donetsk. He notched 11 goals from inside the penalty area, while two came from distance. He kept his cool from the penalty spot, scoring five of his six attempts.

It was only Guirassy's second UEFA Champions League campaign,, following the 2020/21 season with Stade Rennes. His highlights undoubtedly included the two home games against FC Barcelona: he bagged a brace in the narrow 3-2 defeat in the league phase and then scored all three BVB goals in a 3-1 victory in the quarter-final return leg.
