Post-Match Report
Lars Ricken: “We've proudly represented BVB, Dortmund and the Bundesliga”
Lars Ricken (managing director): “We didn’t play badly today, we never gave up. In the end, it was even spectacular, when Marcel Sabitzer had the huge chance to make it 3-3. But Real Madrid were more effective and precise in the decisive moments. We recognise that and congratulate them on progressing. We are among the top eight in Europe, reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League and are now among the best eight teams in the world. That’s something to be proud of. No German team has been better than us internationally in the past two years. We’ve had an intense period behind us. We have proudly represented BVB, the city of Dortmund and the Bundesliga at the FIFA Club World Cup. I hope that our time here in the USA has brought our team closer together. The players will now get a few weeks’ holiday. And then we’ll all start preparing for the coming season together. That’s an advantage we'll have over previous years.”
Sebastian Kehl (sporting director): “We made it exciting again in the second half and gave it our all until the end. Overall, there could have been a little more in it for us today, especially in the second half. But to be honest, we didn’t do enough throughout the game, especially in the first half. We were too passive and conceded two simple goals. At the moment, the disappointment is overwhelming. On the other hand, we can also be proud that we were among the best eight in this tournament. The team fought hard in this tournament and made a statement. So we’re taking a lot of positives with us. We surpassed our objectives. Off the pitch, we also tried to make our mark here in America and present ourselves as a club. We did that well.”
