Post-Match Report

Postgame Reactions: “Need to Play with More Courage”

The Black & Yellow only managed a scoreless draw at Stadion An der Alten Försterei on Saturday afternoon (CEST), as the two sides for the first time played to a draw in a matchup whose previous editions had always featured a winner and at least one goal. Check out the postgame reactions!

Lars Ricken (in the mixed zone): “We’re obviously disappointed. I think the team rose to the challenge, playing with great intensity and physicality from the start. Of course, that also made the game a bit disjointed. We did create chances when we got into our rhythm and tried to attack with purpose.”

Ole Book (in the mixed zone): “We’re disappointed. We wanted to do a lot more. To get in behind, you need to be play with more courage all over the field. We started doing that far too late. When we're bolder, we play really good football and are able to put pressure on our opponents. We have a specific problem. When we trail — as we did in Norway — or when we feel like time is running out late in a match, we play much better. That’s the issue we need to focus on.”

Waldemar Anton (in the mixed zone): “There are things we’re not doing well in the final third at the moment. We simply make the wrong decisions. That’s something we can work through and thoroughly analyze, though. We just need to keep our calm. As I said, we're a young team. We’ll work through this and do even better going forward. We're all going through this experience together. We have to fight and work hard to get back on track. That little bit of luck we're missing in the final third is something you have to earn. That’s what we’ll be doing over the next few days.”

Gregor Kobel (on Sky): “We didn’t do enough to create more problems for our opponents, to put pressure on them, to penetrate deeper into their half, or to threaten their goal from time to time. Ultimately, that's what we lacked today. Ultimately, you’re left with a scoreless draw,, which is frustrating and painful.”
