Borussia Dortmund welcomes the Federal Cartel Office’s assessment

Following a renewed review, the Federal Cartel Office has generally classified the 50+1 rule as permissible under antitrust law. The agency announced this on Wednesday. However, the Federal Cartel Office stated that this is contingent upon the consistent and uniform application of the rule. For BVB, 50+1 has always been more than just a rule. It stands for club identity, co-determination, and a vibrant fan culture. That is why we will not tire of working together with all 36 clubs to find a legally sound, transparent, and reliable solution.

As a club with a strong membership base, we will continue to actively embrace participation in the future. “We seek dialogue with our members and value their commitment, sense of responsibility, and involvement. This exchange shapes Borussia Dortmund—and we will continue to strengthen it,” emphasizes Carsten Cramer, spokesperson for the management board of Borussia Dortmund. “Our stance is clear: 50+1 is part of German soccer, and members and fans belong at the heart of the club.”
