A Greek Masterclass with a Very Bad Aftertaste
BVB took 20 shots against HSV. The club's pair of young, technically gifted Greek attackers were involved in 13 of them. Konstantelias provided two assists and took two shots at Heuer Fernandez’s goal: After making it 2-0 in stoppage time of the first half, he came within centimeters of a second goal shortly after the break. Unfortunately, Giannis Konstanteliasconcerns became the subject of the BVB fans' worries after a 49th-minute duel with Hamburg's Bakery Jatta, who deserved no blame whatsover for the unfortunate incident (see postgame comments). After the match, club officials received confirmation of their their fears that the new signing might have suffered a serious knee injury. The precise diagnosis is expected on Sunday.
Karetsas, who took six shots and played provider on another three, enjoyed an oustanding performance – especially in the first 45 minutes, during which he was involved in a total of eight shots, including assisting on Serhou Guirassy's ninth-minute effort for 1-0. Karetsas' direct mark, Louis Lemke, won only 20 percent of the many duels between the two in the opening period.
Borussia's third debutant earned himself excellent grades as well. At over 80 percent of his one-on-one duels won, Joane Gadou stood out as the top player in the category during the first 45 minutes. In additon, the Frenchman remained almost entirely mistake-free in his team’s build-up play. By the time the final whistle sounded, he boasted an impressive 69 percent rate of one-on-one duels won.
