“Bomb attack near the exit to the team hotel”

Defender Marc Bartra sustained an injury to his hand in a bomb attack on the BVB Team Bus early this evening. Hans-Joachim Watzke and Reinhard Rauball made their first statements on the incident in an interview with pay-TV channel Sky.

Hans-Joachim Watzke: “There was a bomb attack near the exit to the hotel. When the team bus drove from the hotel car park onto Wittbräucker Straβe, three explosive devices were detonated. Marc Bartra was taken to hospital having sustained an injury to his hand. We then immediately got in contact with the security delegates and our colleagues from Monaco. The match has been rescheduled for 18:45 CET tomorrow. Tickets will remain valid for the rescheduled fixture. I would like to pay a huge compliment to our fans, who have dealt with this in a good, matter-of-fact way and supportive way. The team and the coaching staff are obviously shocked. We now need to channel that in some way. It won’t be easy to get tonight’s events out of our heads. The Black and Yellow community come together in such crisis situations. And I think the team will feel that tomorrow.”

Reinhard Rauball: “Naturally this is now an extremely difficult situation for the players. But they are professionals and I am convinced they will deal with it and perform tomorrow. It would be bad if the people that did this manage to disrupt the team in some way as well.”
