U23s to head to Halle on final day of the season

The Borussia Dortmund U23s will be away to Hallescher FC on Saturday at the unusual kick-off time of 13:30 CEST. The hosts were already condemned to relegation to the Regionalliga last weekend, while BVB can still extend their own points record.

BVB personnel: Franz Pfanne must serve his suspension from the last home game and will not travel to Halle. Ayman Azhil will miss out after accumulating 10 yellow cards, while the longer-term injury absentees Tiago Estevao, Felix Irorere and Abdoulaye Kamara remain sidelined. In Michel Eberwein, Antonios Papadopoulos and Patrick Göbel, three former Halle players will be making the journey to Saxony-Anhalt. BVB have a respectable away record with 27 points, have lost only five times on their travels and thus occupy fourth place in the away table.

Facts and figures about the home team: Halle have won only seven of their 18 home games and have let in 29 goals in the process; only VfB Lübeck have conceded more on home turf. Coach Stefan Reisinger's players have conceded 67 goals overall, a category in which VfB Lübeck are also propping up the table. HFC fell four points behind SV Waldhof Mannheim last weekend and are thus condemned to relegation. The top goalscorer is centre-forward Dominic Baumann, who has scored 15 goals. Narrowly behind him is midfielder Tunay Deniz, who has 10 goals to his name.

Head-to-head record: The Borussia youngsters have not lost any of their 11 matches against HFC, winning four of them. BVB's last victory in Halle came in November 2021, in their promotion season. Four BVB players – Ole Pohlmann, Ted Tattermusch, Guillermo Bueno and Antonios Papadopoulos – were on the pitch that day, while Niklas Landgraf, Jonas Nietfeld, Jannes Vollert and Niklas Kreuzer took to the field for HFC. Michael Eberwein still played in red and white back then, but he is now back at BVB.

Outlook: BVB, who are currently 11th in the table with 53 points, are aiming to further extend the club's points record in the 3. Liga and finish the season in the top half of the table.
