Dziekuje! Everything that happened as part of the farewell match
Kuba's mural
Jakub Blaszczykowski was able to admire it for the first time the evening before the game, and the fans in the stadium had their turn on Saturday: our former number 16 is now immortalised under the South Stand with his own picture wall between blocks 10 and 11. Like Lukasz Piszczek before him, Kuba will now be a part of every match day at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK.
Half-time game with 100 young Black & Yellows
There was no break for three players at half-time - but an unforgettable experience for 100 young BVB fans: Kuba, Piszczu and BVB head coach Nuri Sahin competed against 100 children in a chaotic game on the SIGNAL IDUNA PARK pitch. The end result? 2-0 in favour of the kids, who were also provided with complete BVB home kits by 1&1 and boots by PUMA. The highlight: the young Black & Yellows used their strength in numbers to deny a penalty from Lukasz Piszcek.
For a good cause
Not only did the proceeds from the sale of the 81,365 tickets go to Jakub Blaszczykowski and Lukasz Piszczek's two foundations: the shirts worn by the former BVB pros will be auctioned off after the weekend, with the proceeds also going to the Fundacji Akademii Lukasza Piszczka and the Fundacja Ludzki Gest Jakub Blaszczykowski. Before kick-off, both foundations received a donation of €400,000 apiece.
Dortmund referees
A total of nine referees were on duty at the farewell match - all of them from Dortmund: Dr Paul Hadrossek (Borussia Dortmund) was in charge of the first half, Sebastian Strube (SV Westrich 55) and Tobias Kraeling (VFB Lünen 08) acted as his assistants, the fourth official was Thomas Eckert (Borussia Dortmund). In the second half, Marian Zabell (Borussia Dortmund) was in charge, with his assistants Adrian Mazurkiewicz (VFB Westhofen) and Fabian Bernschein (Rot-Weiss Germania 11/67) and Michael Leimbach (Borussia Dortmund) as the 4th official. The game at half-time between 100 kids and the trio of Kuba, Piszczu and Nuri Sahin was also supervised by Dortmund youth referee Oskar Teichert from Wambeler SV.
Greetings from Los Angeles
There was a very special surprise for all the players and fans before the game: Marco Reus sent a video message from Los Angeles, which was played on the screens at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK: "Greetings from LA, unfortunately I can't be there today. But I just didn't want to miss the opportunity to wish you all the best. Let the city and the fans celebrate you on this wonderful day, you definitely deserve it. We'll stay in touch as before, I wish you all the best."
Three farewells at the farewell game
Even though numbers 16 and 26 were not the highest on the players' lists, Kuba and Piszczu were naturally the last to step onto the pitch at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK. Their teammates formed a guard of honour for the two Poles, and two banners with the faces of the two former BVB players were unfurled. Mats Hummels was also bid farewell before kick-off.
Farewell memorial
Special cups with the faces of Kuba and Piszczu were available at the drinks stands in SIGNAL IDUNA PARK for the farewell match. BVB fans can still purchase scarves, T-shirts and other items with the Tschüssikowski logo in the online shop.
