Current Situation: Heading into the Cup Match in Strong Form

With strong momentum, Borussia Dortmund is looking forward to the challenge of facing Werder Bremen in the DFB Cup. In the UEFA Champions League and the Bundesliga last week, the team secured two important victories—against Sabah FC (2-1) and Eintracht Frankfurt (1-0)—to stay on track in both competitions. In the DFB Cup, the team aims to secure its next victory and clinch a spot in the round of 16.

But Werder Bremen has also picked up three points recently and is traveling to Dortmund in good form: On Saturday, the team from Bremen celebrated a 3-2 away win at 1. FSV Mainz 05.

Cup Statistics: Even Record

In the DFB Pokal, BVB and Werder have faced each other eight times so far. The Black and Yellows won four times, and the Green and Whites won four times. Notably, the most recent three matchups in 2008, 2018, and 2019 all went to Bremen. In each of those instances, the two teams faced off in the round of 16. The biggest DFB Pokal match between Dortmund and Bremen took place on June 24, 1989, when BVB defeated Werder 4–1 in the final in Berlin, bringing the title back to Dortmund.

Jerseys: BVB in Yellow

Borussia Dortmund will take the field in their yellow home jerseys with black shorts and yellow socks (visit the online store). The visitors will wear their coral-red away jerseys.

Weather: Crisp and autumnal

Temperatures of 12 to 14 degrees are still expected in Dortmund on Tuesday evening. It will be cloudy, with a chance of light precipitation.

Recap: Late Draw in Their Most Recent Matchup

It’s been just two and a half weeks since BVB and Werder faced off in the Bundesliga. The Friday night match on Matchday 5 ended in a 2–2 draw. The split of the points was particularly bitter from the Black and Yellow perspective, as the equalizer—scored by former Dortmund player Niclas Füllkrug—didn’t come until deep into stoppage time.
