First-round fixture in the DFB Pokal confirmed – against HEBC at the Volksparkstadion

The German Football Association (DFB) has announced the fixtures for the first round of the 2026/27 DFB Pokal. Borussia Dortmund will face Hamburg-Eimsbütteler Ballsport-Club (HEBC) on 1 September 2026 at 20:45 CEST. The match will be played at Hamburg’s Volksparkstadion and broadcast live on RTL and Sky.

BVB will not be playing their first round of the cup as usual on the weekend before the Bundesliga season kicks off, as FC Bayern Munich are due to visit SIGNAL IDUNA PARK on Saturday 22 August for the Franz Beckenbauer Super Cup (kick-off 20:30 CEST). Instead, the matches involving the two Super Cup participants will be played in early September.

Two years ago, BVB played their first-round DFB Pokal match at Hamburg’s Volksparkstadion. In August 2024, Borussia faced 1. FC Phönix Lübeck and won 4-1 thanks to goals from Waldemar Anton, Emre Can, Julian Brandt and Julien Duranville. A total of 50,971 fans set a new attendance record for a first-round match in the DFB Pokal. 40,000 BVB fans turned the away end of the stadium yellow.
